RBI CUTS CRR BY 0.5 % , LEAVES REPO RATES UNCHANGED
NEW DELHI, JANUARY 24 :
ON the basis of the current macroeconomic assessment, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its monetary policy review on Tuesday cut the cash reserve ratio (CRR) of scheduled banks by 50 basis points from 6.0 per cent to 5.5 per cent of their net demand and time liabilities (NDTL). This will be effective the fortnight beginning January 28, 2012.

IN line with expectations, headline wholesale price index (WPI) inflation in December came in at 7.5 percent (Citi: 7.6 percent; consensus 7.4 per cent). The 160 basis points ( bps) drop in inflation over the 9.1percent print in November is due mainly to primary products inflation (weight of 20.1 percent) which slowed to 3.1 percent from 8.5 percent last month.
CRR CUT BY 1 % TO INJECT RS 56,000 CRORE IN BANKING SECTOR
